GREEN LAKES, PORTSMOUTH

Upon learning of this intention, neighbors were forced to voice their opposition to the City as individuals without any City-recognized body to represent the entire neighborhood.

As a strategic maneuver, the neighbors united to show their opposition to the plan by signing a petition to indicate their dissatisfaction to the petitioner’s plan.  During the course of obtaining signatures, many neighbors voiced their opinion that the neighborhood should have a Civic League to represent our interests collectively.  Thus, the idea for our League evolved.

Vowing not to be caught in a similar situation as above and acting upon the requests of many neighbors, a group of concerned neighbors met and thrashed out the best approach to take to form the League.   As a result, the Green Lakes Civic League was charted with the City on February 15, 2003 and had the first meeting before the entire membership the next month on March 3.

The Green Lakes Civic League meets at 7:00 PM the first Monday of each month at the West Side Christian Church Fellowship Hall on 535 Cherokee Road in the City of Portsmouth.

Every member of our neighborhood is welcome to join us at any of our respective meetings.  We need each and every neighbor within our subdivision to join us so that we can represent the interests of the entire subdivision.  We believe that “Together, we can make a difference.”  We just need everyone’s input to make that difference.
