The residents of Green Lakes enjoy a quiet neighborhood with a man-made lake and proximity to the Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club. The community, with mostly brick ranch style homes, is bordered by Airline Boulevard, Hodges Ferry Road, and the Elizabeth Manor Golf Course. Due to the close proximity to the golf course, many of the streets are named after world class golfers such as Gary Player, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, and Chandler Harper. The large lots, well-manicured lawns and flowers, all present a pleasant view.

The subdivision is located conveniently to downtown Portsmouth, Norfolk and Chesapeake via Interstate 264 and to Newport News and Hampton by Interstate 664. The area is also conveniently located for shopping to the new Victory Crossing Shopping Center, Chesapeake Square Mall, Chesapeake Crossing Shops, and only a short drive from the McArthur Center Shopping Mall, and Greenbrier Mall.

Local schools include Hodges Manor Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson High (Formerly Manor High) School, William E. Waters Middle School, Alliance Christian Academy, and Portsmouth Christian Schools. The neighborhood is only a short drive to the Chesapeake & Portsmouth campuses of Tidewater Community College, Norfolk State University, and Old Dominion University.

Nearby recreation includes the Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club (which has a golf course, swimming pool, and tennis courts, as well as a restaurant), and Bide-a-Wee Golf Course. Downtown Portsmouth can be reached by only a short drive where one can enjoy the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum, Children’s Museum, Olde Town Portsmouth, or enjoy a concert at the nTelos Pavilion.

There are churches of varied denominations located nearby and within the community. The health needs of the neighborhood are met by Maryview Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, the Naval Medical Center- Portsmouth and within a short driving distance – the world class, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The neighborhood is also located close to many government and military installations such as Coast Guard Headquarters, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and just a short drive from the subdivision is the Norfolk Naval Base – the largest naval installation in the world.
